Hey there! I’m Marcus Dieterle, managing editor at Baltimore Fishbowl, a Baltimore-based independent daily news and lifestyle website.
As managing editor, I report a variety of news and feature stories about Baltimore City, surrounding counties, and the state of Maryland; edit other writers’ work; help manage the Baltimore Fishbowl’s social media accounts; and aggregate the top Maryland headlines each day. Check out my latest stories here and some of my best/favorite work (including several award-winning pieces) here.
Before arriving at Baltimore Fishbowl, I served as the deputy editor and features editor at the Cecil Whig newspaper in Elkton, Maryland. I covered education, art, theater, local government, breaking news and just about everything else under the sun that appealed to Cecil County readers. I also assisted the executive editor with the newspaper’s production and day-to-day management.
I graduated from Towson University in 2018 with my bachelor’s degree in mass communication (with a concentration in journalism and new media) and political science. While there, I worked as the editor-in-chief of The Towerlight, Towson’s independent, student-run newspaper. During that time, I covered student life, diversity issues, administrative policy, local government, and so much more.
