Hey there! I’m Marcus Dieterle, a Maryland-based journalist with more than 8 years of experience in news editing, reporting, and leading newsrooms. I’m a Baltimore County native, Baltimore City resident, and currently the managing editor of Baltimore Fishbowl, an independent daily news and lifestyle website.
As editor of this award-winning digital publication, I report news stories about politics, business, health, education, and more; provide constructive editing to reporters and other contributors; track analytics to inform editorial strategy; maintain our homepage; help manage Baltimore Fishbowl’s social media accounts and newsletters; and aggregate the top Maryland headlines from fellow news outlets each day. Check out some of my best/favorite work (including several award-winning pieces) here.
Before arriving at Baltimore Fishbowl, I served as the deputy editor and features editor at the Cecil Whig newspaper in Elkton, Maryland. I covered Cecil County K-12 and communtiy college education, visual and performing arts, local government, breaking news and just about everything else under the sun. I also assisted the executive editor with the newspaper’s production and day-to-day management.
I graduated from Towson University in 2018 with my bachelor’s degree in mass communication (with a concentration in journalism and new media) and political science. While there, I worked as the editor-in-chief of The Towerlight, Towson’s independent, student-run newspaper. During that time, I covered student life, diversity issues, administrative policy, local government, and so much more.
